City Seeks Public Input Following March’s Bulk Item Collection Pilot Program

Date of Release:
April 15, 2026

The City of Paducah Public Works Department is inviting residents to share their feedback following the completion of the March Household Bulk Item Collection Pilot Program. All residents, whether they participated or not, are encouraged to share their thoughts. The survey is available through May 3 and can be accessed online.

Bulk Item Collection Program Survey

This pilot program offered residents a no-cost opportunity to dispose of up to three large household items during their scheduled garbage collection week. Eligible residents were able to place items such as furniture, mattresses, or coolant-free appliances at the curb by Sunday evening prior to their assigned collection week.

According to the Public Works Department, approximately ten percent of Paducah’s households participated in the program. Public Works crews made 900 stops and collected a total of 61.65 tons of bulk items. The effort required 274 equipment hours—including the use of specialized equipment such as a knuckleboom—and 375 hours of staff time.

The next step is to evaluate the program’s effectiveness and total costs to inform potential future improvements or expansion. Feedback from the survey will help guide decision-making and ensure future services best meet the needs of the community.
